Left Book Club Reading Group: The Power of Protest
Black-E Studio
24.09.2022
11AM – 12:30PM
TWT_122 Left Book Club

As workers and trade unionists gather on the streets and the cost of living crisis escalates, join the Left Book Club to explore the power of protest and Britain’s rich and successful history of collective action and resistance. We’ll be reading ‘Protest’ by Ra Page - an inspiring account of twenty key moments from the Peasant’s Revolt and the Tolpuddle Martyrs to the anti-apartheid solidarity movement and the anti-Iraq War demo of 2003. We’ll be using the book as a starting point for a wider discussion, so feel free to come along even if you haven’t read it. We’ll also be joined by some special guests (to be confirmed!).

You can order the book here: (opens in a new tab)https://commapress.co.uk/books/protest

Organisations

Pioneering British publisher Victor Gollancz founded the original Left Book Club in 1936. His aim was to popularise the ideas of the left and combat the rise of fascism. Members received one book a month, including George Orwell’s The Road to Wigan Pier and Edgar Snow’s Red Star Over China. Today, the aims of the LBC remain the same. We bring people together to share ideas that will help transform society.
